Web Design Northern Ireland: Websites Built to Win Enquiries

Updated on:
Updated by: ProfileTree Team

ProfileTree is a Belfast-based web design agency building websites for businesses across Northern Ireland. We design, build, write, film and rank the sites we deliver, so one team stays accountable for whether the finished website actually brings in enquiries. Founded in 2011, we have worked with NI businesses from sole traders in County Fermanagh to manufacturers on the outskirts of Antrim, and we deliver projects remotely across every county as standard. If you are weighing up a new website or a redesign, this page sets out what we build, what it involves, what it costs, and how a project runs from first call to launch.

5-star Google rating from 450+ verified reviews. Founded in 2011. Over 1,000 projects delivered. Belfast office at the McSweeney Centre, 31 Henry Place, BT15 2AY.

Web Design Services for Northern Ireland Businesses

Most enquiries fall into one of five categories, and each sits within our full range of digital agency services. The right starting point depends on what you need the site to do, not on how many pages it has.

Brochure and lead generation websites

A focused site for service businesses that need enquiries rather than transactions. Typically five to fifteen pages covering services, sectors, credentials and contact, structured around the actions you want a visitor to take. Suits solicitors, accountants, trades, consultancies and B2B suppliers.

WordPress design and development

Our default platform for businesses that plan to publish content, add service pages over time or manage the site themselves. Built on a custom theme rather than a bought template, with a content management system your team can use without ringing us for every text change.

E-commerce builds

WooCommerce on WordPress for retailers who want content and search visibility alongside the shop. Shopify for retailers who want a simpler technical environment and accept the ongoing platform fee. Both are built with NI realities in mind: sterling and euro payments, GB and ROI delivery zones, and VAT handling that differs by jurisdiction.

Website redesigns and rebuilds

Rebuilding an existing site is a different job from starting fresh. It involves auditing what currently earns traffic, mapping redirects so rankings survive the move, and deciding what to keep rather than defaulting to a clean sweep. Most of our redesign clients come to us because the current site looks dated or no longer generates enquiries.

Choosing a platform

Platform choice is a business decision rather than a technical one. The question is not which is best; it is which fits how you intend to run the site once we hand it over.

PlatformBest suited toOngoing cost modelContent and SEO flexibilityWho manages updates
WordPressBusinesses publishing content regularly and building service or location pages over timeHosting and support only, no licence feeHigh, full control of structure and markupYour team, or us under support

ShopifyRetailers who want a simpler technical environment and predictable maintenanceMonthly platform fee plus transaction costs and appsModerate, constrained by the platformLargely handled by Shopify
WebflowDesign-led marketing sites with limited content volumeMonthly platform feeModerate, good technical output, smaller ecosystemYour team after training

Hosting, maintenance and ongoing support

Managed hosting, security and plugin updates, backups, performance monitoring and minor content changes. Optional, but most clients take it, because a website that nobody updates becomes a liability within about eighteen months.

Not sure which of these you need? Book a 20-minute discovery call, and we will tell you which route fits the business, including when the answer is a smaller project than you expected.

What a Website Costs in Northern Ireland

Very few NI agencies publish pricing, which makes it hard to tell one quote from another. Here is how our project scoping works and what sits behind the numbers. Every project is quoted individually after discovery, so treat these as starting points rather than a price list.

What drives the price

Four things move a quote more than anything else. Scope, meaning the number of unique page templates rather than the number of pages. Functionality, because a booking engine, a members area or an integration with your accounting system is development work, not design work. Content, because copy, photography and product data either come from you or are produced by us. And compliance, because accessibility testing and public sector digital standards add genuine effort.

What is included, and what is billed separately

Our build quotes include design, development, technical SEO setup, testing, launch and a handover session. Domain registration, ongoing hosting and support, photography, video production and ongoing marketing are quoted separately so you can see what you are paying for.

Why Web Design for Northern Ireland Businesses Is Different

The technology is the same everywhere. The context is not, and the differences are commercial rather than technical.

Serving customers on both sides of the border

Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK with a land border, and for most businesses that border is porous. A hotel in Enniskillen draws guests from Cavan and Monaghan. A construction supplier in Newry serves clients in both jurisdictions. That dual audience affects currency display, VAT labelling, telephone number formats, date conventions and the language used around certain locations. We plan for it in the content architecture and the technical setup rather than patching it afterwards.

Invest NI and council funding for digital projects

Northern Ireland has digital support programmes that do not exist in GB. Invest NI runs programmes supporting SME digitalisation, and several local councils have funded free or subsidised web design and digital marketing training. ProfileTree has delivered training under a number of these council-funded schemes, so we understand how the programmes operate and what eligibility tends to look like. If you have not checked whether a current scheme applies to you, do that before committing budget.

How NI search behaviour differs

People search for suppliers in Ballymena, Omagh, Bangor and Coleraine, not only Belfast, and rural search intent behaves differently from city search intent. Some terms that look logical carry almost no volume here. Getting this right means Google Business Profile optimisation for the correct service areas and location content that does more than swap a town name in a template. Our SEO services for Northern Ireland businesses cover this in depth.

Sectors We Work With Across Northern Ireland

Web Design Northern Ireland: How NI Businesses Build Sites That Work

Requirements vary considerably by sector. What changes is the content approach, the user journey and the technical specification.

Tourism and hospitality

Hotels, self-catering properties, tour operators and attractions compete with booking platforms that take commission on every reservation. The job of the site is to win the direct booking before the visitor navigates away, which means fast pages, credible photography or video, and a booking journey with as little friction as the OTA offers.

Manufacturing and industry

The audience is procurement professionals and engineers doing due diligence before they make contact. They want technical specifications, capability statements, and accreditation details. A site that looks polished but says very little does not convert this audience.

Professional services

Solicitors, accountants, financial advisers and architects face a credibility test rather than a design test. Case study content, team profiles with real credentials and editorial that demonstrates expertise will outperform generic corporate language every time.

Retail and e-commerce

Platform choice, fulfilment logistics across GB and ROI delivery zones, VAT handling by jurisdiction, and payment in both currencies. We help clients choose the platform that fits the business rather than the one currently in fashion.

Public sector, charities and community organisations

Strict WCAG accessibility requirements, formal procurement processes, and audiences that include funders, beneficiaries and the general public at once. These projects also need a CMS that non-technical staff can operate without agency involvement for routine updates. We build to WCAG standards as a matter of course rather than as a paid extra, and we are used to working within tender timetables and evidencing compliance in writing. Charities and social enterprises often need donation or membership functionality alongside a public-facing site, and that is worth scoping at discovery rather than adding later.

Our Process: How a Web Design Project Runs

Six stages. Durations below are indicative and confirmed against your project at quote stage. The most common cause of overrun is content arriving late, so we agree who is writing what before design begins.

1. Discovery and brief. A structured video call of 45 to 90 minutes covering objectives, audience, competitors, budget, internal resources, and approval routes. Complex projects get a written brief for sign-off before any design work starts.

2. Architecture and content plan. We map the site structure, agree the page list, and confirm which copy you supply and which we write. You receive content templates so material arrives in a usable format by an agreed date.

3. Design. Concepts are shared by screen share or as annotated PDFs. We work through key templates first, because approving the pattern is faster than approving every page.

4. Build on staging. Development happens on a staging environment you can open from any browser, so you can watch progress without specialist software. Heading structure, page speed, mobile layout, and internal linking are handled here rather than retrofitted.

5. Review and testing. We provide a review checklist and ask for consolidated feedback in rounds. Cross-browser and cross-device testing, form testing, and accessibility checks happen in parallel.

6. Launch and handover. DNS updates, hosting migration where relevant, final SEO checks, redirect mapping if this is a rebuild, and a handover session walking your team through the CMS.

After launch

Support clients with technical maintenance, security updates, performance monitoring, and content changes. We also train in-house teams to manage content and basic on-page SEO themselves, which is usually cheaper than buying agency hours for routine work. Our digital and AI training for business teams covers this as a standalone service too.

Start with a discovery call. Forty-five minutes, no obligation, and you will finish the call with a clear view of scope, timeline and cost.

Beyond the Build: SEO, Content, Video and AI

A website that launches and then sits untouched loses ground. These are the elements that decide whether it earns anything.

SEO built in, not bolted on

Heading hierarchy, URL structure, internal linking, page speed, and mobile performance are build decisions. Retrofitting them later costs more and works less well. Every site we build launches with technical SEO in place and a keyword-informed page structure, and we can continue with ongoing SEO after launch.

Content, video and animation

Content is the most common cause of project delay and the most common reason a good-looking site underperforms. We write copy, produce video and create animation in-house, which means product films, explainer animation and staff or premises footage can be scheduled alongside the build rather than added a year later. Our video production team in Belfast works on the same projects as the web team.

Buyers increasingly ask an AI assistant to shortlist suppliers before they open a search engine. Being cited requires clear entity information, unambiguous service and location statements, structured answers to real questions and consistency between your site and your third-party profiles. We build sites to be readable by both, and offer [AI training and implementation](SLUG NEEDED: AI training page) for teams who want to use these tools internally.

Why Choose ProfileTree

  • We are based in Belfast and have worked with NI businesses since 2011. The office is at the McSweeney Centre, 31 Henry Place, Belfast BT15 2AY, and you are welcome to visit.
  • Design, development, copywriting, video, animation and SEO are all in-house. Nothing is subcontracted to a third party you never meet, which is why one team can be held accountable for the result.
  • We use our own methods on our own properties. ProfileTree runs and ranks its own brands, including Learning Mole, Connolly Cove, Amazing Food and Drink and Amazing Cars and Drives.
  • We have delivered digital training under council-funded schemes across Northern Ireland, so we understand how local support programmes work.
  • Our clients stay. Many NI clients have been with us for several years, developing the site over time rather than treating it as a one-off build.
  • 5-star Google rating from 450+ verified reviews. Over 1,000 projects delivered since 2011.

Ciaran Connolly, founder of ProfileTree, puts it plainly: “We built ProfileTree’s own online presence using the same methods we apply for clients. That means we can show exactly what we do, how it works, and what results to expect, rather than asking clients to take our word for it.”

Where We Work in Northern Ireland

We work remotely as standard, so a client in Strabane gets the same process as a client ten minutes from the office. Projects run in Belfast, Lisburn, Derry and Londonderry, Newry, Armagh, Bangor, Newtownards, Coleraine, Ballymena, Antrim, Omagh, Enniskillen, Dungannon, Banbridge and across the border counties. If you would prefer to meet in person, we can accommodate that for Belfast area clients, but it is not a requirement for the project to run well. FAQs

How much does a website cost in Northern Ireland?

It depends on scope, functionality, who produces the content and whether accessibility compliance is required. The table above shows our indicative bands by project type. Build cost is separate from ongoing costs: hosting, maintenance and support are quoted annually or monthly, and marketing is a separate engagement. We quote every project individually after discovery, so you see a fixed figure against a defined scope rather than an hourly estimate that moves.

How long does a web design project take?

A standard brochure website typically takes eight to twelve weeks from kickoff to launch, assuming content arrives on schedule. E-commerce projects and sites with custom development take longer. The most common cause of delay is content, so we agree on the content plan and deadlines during discovery and supply templates to make supplying it straightforward.

Will a redesign affect my current Google rankings?

It can, which is why the audit comes first. We check what your existing pages earn in impressions and clicks, preserve the URLs that perform, map 301 redirects for anything that changes, and keep the content that is doing the ranking rather than replacing it wholesale. Rankings usually move slightly in the weeks after a migration and then settle. Skipping the redirect mapping is what causes lasting damage.

What are the ongoing costs after the site launches?

Hosting and support are the main ones, covering managed hosting, security and plugin updates, backups, uptime and performance monitoring, and a set allowance for content changes. Domain renewal is annual and usually small. Anything beyond that is optional: ongoing SEO, content production, video or paid advertising are quoted separately so you can start or stop them without affecting the site itself.

Can you build a site that serves customers in both Northern Ireland and the Republic?

Yes, and we do it regularly. It covers how prices are shown in sterling, euro, or both; VAT inclusive and exclusive display for different audiences; telephone number formats; and location-specific content differences. We also configure hosting and caching so the site loads quickly from both sides of the border, which matters for user experience and for search.
