The Challenge

Our client initially had issues with their old website. It was dramatically declining in search engine rankings, resulting in lost traffic and missed opportunities for sales. We needed to focus on SEO tactics and deliver a focused strategy that enhanced the website design for tradesmen like our client.

Declining SEO Ranking

The root causes of the declining SEO were outdated tactics that weren’t focused on the client’s audience. We needed to delve a little deeper into what resonated with their target audience and deliver SEO content that would capture their attention.

Lack of Local SEO

We also needed to enhance the local SEO performance of our client, especially given the fact that as a tradesman, they operated within a specific area. We needed to focus on technical SEO measures and ensure that their website was positioned to reach the right audience.

New Website Build

One of the major challenges encountered during this project was the task of constructing an entirely new website. We were entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the existing brand identity while ensuring that the new digital home encompassed all the essential information that prospective customers sought.

This was a major project for us, but one that we were excited to hit the ground running with.

The Client

We partnered with Village Blinds and Shutters, a family-run company offering custom blinds and shutters to residential and commercial customers across Northern Ireland. The business had been operating successfully for decades offline but faced challenges when it came to its online visibility and digital lead generation.

Our job was to build a conversion-focused website for tradesmen that would restore their online presence and improve lead generation via search.

They offer a wide range of products, from classic to contemporary window fittings, to suit any style or budget. They also offer a free home consultation, where they will measure windows, show fabric samples, and provide a no-obligation quote.

Our Approach

Technical SEO

To restore strong organic visibility, we implemented a robust technical SEO strategy tailored specifically for website design for tradesmen. This included optimising page titles and meta descriptions with trade-relevant keywords, enhancing site speed, and ensuring full mobile responsiveness. These foundational improvements supported both user experience and search engine performance.

Supporting Long-Term SEO Growth

To further boost search visibility, we developed a content strategy that included a dedicated blog section. This targeted high-intent search terms and local queries relevant to tradesmen, reinforcing the site’s authority and relevance. Our multi-layered SEO approach was designed to complement the broader goal of ranking strongly for website design for tradesmen.

Building a New Website

Alongside SEO improvements, completely rebuilding the website itself was instrumental. We designed an intuitive, conversion-focused website specifically designed to connect with tradesmen customers more effectively. We used multiple calls to action, and visual cues that would help convert casual browsers into potential customers.

Building a New Website

Integration with SUMO App and Hubspot

To streamline the lead capture process and maximise conversion opportunities, we seamlessly integrated our client’s website with the SUMO App. This integration ensured that visitors could easily reach out to our client for inquiries or quotes.

These forms were also seamlessly integrated with our client’s Hubspot account, allowing them to effortlessly track and manage incoming leads. Through this website integration, we streamlined our client’s lead capture process and enhanced their ability to track and nurture potential customers, ultimately driving business growth.

The Results

The combination of a revamped SEO strategy and purpose-built website helped drive the increased organic traffic, leads, and sales needed to revive the business. The new platform also positioned the business for scalability into new markets and expanded offerings over time.

Faster Page Loads Speeds

Faster Page Loads Speeds

Our technical optimisation efforts resulted in a dramatic improvement in page load speeds, resulting in an impressive 2 milliseconds interactivity page loading time. This enhanced the website’s responsiveness into a more seamless user experience, boosting engagement and positively influencing search engine rankings.

On-Page SEO Score

The comprehensive on-page SEO strategy implemented by our team yielded remarkable results, propelling the website’s on-page SEO score to an exceptional 75. This achievement signified a significant improvement in the website’s overall SEO health and its ability to attract and retain visitors.

Monthly Organic Visitors

The strategic implementation of a revamped SEO strategy and a purpose-built website led to an impressive surge in monthly organic visitors, surpassing 1,000. This substantial increase in organic traffic translated into a wider audience base and better opportunities for local SEO.

Website Design for Tradesmen: Why It Matters

In today’s digital environment, a strong online presence is crucial for tradesmen looking to grow their business. A professionally built website design for tradesmen not only helps attract new customers but also establishes credibility and trust through clear messaging, strong visuals, and user-friendly navigation.

Increases Visibility and Reach

An effective website design for tradesmen ensures your services are visible to potential customers, even if they aren’t searching for your business by name. By focusing on SEO best practices, your website can appear in local and industry-specific search results, making it easier for new customers to find you — especially important for tradesmen expanding into new markets or starting out.

Showcases Skills and Services

Your website serves as a digital storefront, showcasing your work, specialisms, and customer value. A targeted website design for tradesmen includes project galleries, detailed service descriptions, and clear pricing, helping you convert browsers into qualified leads.

Builds Trust and Credibility

Trust is key in the trades sector. A well-structured, mobile-optimised website reassures visitors that you’re a professional. Testimonials, accreditations, and high-quality visuals all support your reputation as a reliable and experienced tradesman.

We helped Village Blinds achieve this with a bespoke website design for tradesmen, positioning them to dominate local search rankings and capture more qualified leads in their service area.

Best Practices for Website Design for Tradesmen

Through this case study, several best practices emerged for anyone considering a website project for a trade-based business:

Keep It Local

Ensure your site targets geographic queries. Use schema markup, map embeds, and location pages. For example, include keywords like “electrician in Derry” or “shutter fitting in Belfast”.

Prioritise Speed and Mobile UX

Most users will access your site via mobile. Use a responsive framework, test on various screen sizes, and streamline navigation to support fast conversions.

Use Authentic Visuals

High-quality images of your actual projects build trust. Don’t use generic stock photography — tradesmen websites perform better when they include real people, tools, and work in progress.

Make Enquiry Simple

Use short contact forms, floating buttons, and appointment scheduling tools. Keep friction low and reduce the time needed to make an enquiry.

Maintain SEO Hygiene

Always implement foundational SEO measures: page titles, meta descriptions, internal links, sitemap, robots.txt and alt tags — all tailored to website design for tradesmen.
