When we founded ProfileTree, we saw something that frustrated us: brilliant businesses struggling with fragmented digital services. Companies were hiring separate agencies for web design, then different providers for SEO, and yet another team for digital marketing. Or trying to do many of these in house without the expertise needed. The result? Disconnected strategies, wasted marketing budgets, and websites that looked good but failed to deliver leads or sales.
At ProfileTree we focus on a simple but powerful mission: to bridge the gap between beautiful web design and measurable business growth for SMEs across Northern Ireland, Ireland, and the UK.

Early days
ProfileTree made a soft entrance into the digital marketing realm, focusing on website design and harnessing the power of social media platforms like Facebook, which was dominant at that time. We dedicated significant effort to mastering it, transforming Facebook visitors into website traffic, while simultaneously strategising to engage with other emerging platforms like LinkedIn and Twitter.
Company Formation
ProfileTree was officially incorporated, marking a serious commitment to our business. This year also saw the introduction of Google Places for Business, a pivotal development for local SEO. We began designing and delivering strategies to help local businesses leverage the these new opportunities in attracting nearby audiences.
Mastering Google
Social media platforms evolved and people started to think of them as less than a passing fad. Instagram's acquisition by Facebook underscored this trend, later of which would be known as Meta. Meanwhile, Google Plus, which launched the previous year, became a major focus for us. We quickly became proficient, making it into the top 10 Google Plus profiles in Ireland.
Mastering SEO
With the introduction of Google's Hummingbird update, SEO began to emphasise natural language processing and the contextual meaning of queries over mere keywords. This shift inspired us to focus more on content marketing that addressed real questions and offered real value (it was no longer about us, but what the audience was looking for) ultimately identifying ourselves as an SEO-centric agency.
Anticipating Mobile Marketing
This year saw the acquisition of WhatsApp by Facebook for $19 billion - underscoring the burgeoning importance of mobile marketing. Recognising this new trend of content consumption, we adapted our strategies to better target mobile users, ensuring that we stayed at the forefront of this trend. It's hard to think that this was once a 'new thing' given how common mobile browsing is today!
Embracing Responsive Web Design
In response to Google's Mobilegeddon update, which prioritised mobile-friendly websites in search results, we began guiding our clients on the importance of responsive web design, converting many existing sites to be mobile-friendly. We also provided free tutorials on this via our YouTube channel, helping to establish our brand as credible experts in web design and development.
Rapid Social Media Growth
The introduction of Instagram Stories revolutionised brand engagement on social media, emphasising authentic, engaging, yet brief content snippets. We developed a niche in video marketing - creating shorter visual content derived from longer formats to satisfy both detailed and casual browsing needs. This year also saw the rapid growth of our social media channels due to mastering these current consumption trends.
Exploring AR and VR
Amidst the Pokemon Go phenomenon, we explored the potential of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in marketing materials. Despite less media attention, the use of Artificial Intelligence, especially in customer service chatbots, was also on the rise. We began investigating how these technologies could benefit small businesses and where they could potentially go in the future.
Navigating GDPR
The implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) transformed how businesses handled personal data within the EU. We supported our clients through this transition, which was particularly important for those clients who had their customer's personal data stored. We provided guidance and solutions for following data compliance.
Voice Search Optimisation
With voice assistants like Alexa and Google Home becoming mainstream, we trained our clients on how to optimise their online content for voice search marketing, ensuring that their digital presence remained competitive and accessible through this new medium.
Digital Transformation Accelerated by COVID-19
The pandemic significantly increased online shopping, remote work, and digital consumption, all within a very short timeframe. This led to some businesses having to immediately adapt to digital marketing in order to keep their businesses alive. We provided support in pivoting to these changes, emphasising the importance of an online presence.
Video Marketing Training
TikTok's explosive growth highlighted the potential for even small businesses to reach global audiences via social media. The demand for video marketing training surged as clients sought to control their own social media content creation and management. We continue to provide this service today and it is a much requested one at that.
Short Form Video Marketing
Short-form content became ubiquitous across platforms like YouTube Shorts, TikTok Reels, Facebook Reels, and Instagram Reels. We assisted businesses in adapting their video content strategies to this modern trend, initially creating long-form videos then editing them into engaging short clips.
Rebranding
We rebranded to ProfileTree Web Design and Digital Marketing to better communicate our services to potential clients. The introduction of AI tools like ChatGPT, Leonardo AI and Claude AI, also came on to the scene, which sparked significant interest in their potential impact on the digital marketing industry. We took this time to explore AI usage with our internal brands in order to provide advise our clients.
Embracing AI in Marketing
Recognising the enduring presence and potential of AI, we focused on integrating AI to enhance content strategies and content creation. By analysing Google's algorithm updates and trends, we formulated AI-assisted content strategies that maintained high standards and performance. We also now provide AI training to our clients, showing them how to make use of the technology in their workflows.

How It’s Going
Today, ProfileTree Web Design and Digital Marketing has achieved milestones that once seemed far beyond our reach. We have expanded our brand and become a recognisable name within the digital marketing industry.
Alongside our primary brand, we have also successfully launched several other in-house brands, each carving out its own unique space within the digital market. Due to this success, our team has grown to 24 members and continues to expand as new talent joins us on our journey of growth and innovation.
